Lena: Le Aqua Na Has 7-8 miles of wide groomed trails and about that many more of small challenging trails with downed trees and other obstacles. The main trails have several good stream crossings that are great for training since they are too wide to jump. but not at all deep.

They close for rain conditions. They plan to open April 15th 2003.
You can spend a whole day if you can handle ungroomed trails. And half a day if you stay on the groomed trails. Motorized vehicles are not allowed on the trails, I only see hikers and bikers.

Wolf Creek State Park
Windsor: The horse campground in the park has 18 camping sites, all with hitching posts. Out of these 4 have electric. There is 1 handicap site accessable also with electric. There are 2 male and 2 female outdoor bathrooms at the campsites with more at the main campground. There is also a shower site at the main campground just a 1/4 mile away or so. There is one water spigot in the campground to water horses. This horse campground is located next to the beginning of a very nice 15 mile scenic trail.
This is the main trail for the park with many outlaw trails that have been made by riders over the last two decades. At about the halfway mark there is an outdoor bathroom.
The main trail itself winds through woods above the lake and at one point you can ride down to a beach to water horses or take a break and rest the buns. There is also a scenic lookout just south of beach with picnic tables and hitching post, a very nice place to have lunch or a snack. PH 217-459-2831

Miller State Forest - Oregon, Illinois (south of Castle Rock S.P.)
Lowden: There is a nice parking lot with picnic tables, an outhouse and they were just finishing up a hand pump when we there in September.
It is in a quiet and very picturesque area; pine tree lined paths, and a nice stretch along the Rock River. It has just been opened for horses and they want people to sign in to see how much traffic there really is. If there is enough, they will add more trails (right now it is only about 5 miles long). There is great potential for many more miles of lovely trails to be added if riders will just show up, sign in, and ask for more trails.
Ride on!

Trail Rides

One Horse Gap
The One Horse Gap ride is located in southern Illinois. It is run by the Buchanan family. They have a small campground but they have a lot of hospitality. They serve 3 nice meals a day in a new building that also houses the showers and flush toilets. They also have bands come in and some campfire with music.
There was a bingo night with prizes. They know the trails and have access to some private ground.
Do take a lot of water hose as that is the downside as they only had a hose to water horses but you can bring a splitter and hose and split from the original hose. They also have a hot tub you can use.
