It has beautiful scenery, up to 9 different trails in various lengths and difficulty. The campground itself is like a "Holiday Inn" for horse campers. Very nice bath house, sites are level, very, very nice. I would recommend this place to anyone.

Foss State Park
About five miles north of I-40 via OK 44. State park office is on the right at the junction of OK 73 & 44. Mouse Creek Campground has open camping (equestrian, RV, tent). There are 10 camp sites on the left side of the loop. There are 19 hitch poles across the road. There is one water hook up for every two camp sites. Each campsite has electric, fire ring and picnic table. Site # 2 is best for a large rig. Reservations are highly recommended as camp use is heavy on weekends. Showers and flush toilets are at the boat dock within walking distance of the CG. The 19 trail miles are divided into 9 loops, well-marked and are easy riding through meadow and forest areas surrounding the lake. There is a convenience store/bait shop with limited groceries across from the state park office. Burns Flat Co-op in Burns Flat either has or can recommend a local person. The nearest feed store is Clinton (about 10 miles E on I-40) or Elk City (about 10 miles W on I-40). We were the only equestrian campers on site in May 2000 and the ranger allowed us to create a rope corral around the hitch poles for our three horses. There is a dump station.

Great Salt Plains State Park
Eight miles N of Jet on SH 38. The equestrian camp ground has easy access and turn-around space. The 2000 fees were $7.00 per night plus $3.00 per horse per trail ride with a self-pay honor box at the CG. The camp sites are gravel back in pads. Hitch poles are scattered (not every site has one); one hitch rack; one water hydrant. The George Sibley Trail is about 7 miles and is accessed by crossing SH 38. The trail is multi-use for hikers, mountain bikers and horses. The trail terrain is flat and excellent for beginning riders and horses. There are flush toilets in the RV CG which abuts the equestrian CG.

Lake Texhoma
More than10 miles of trail, Primitive camping.

Lake Warika
Day ride only, several miles of trail.

Copan Lake
Day ride only, several miles of trail.

Sportman Lake
Seminole, OK. 4 miles E. on HWY 9 to NS360 then 2 miles S to EW 124 and 2 miles East to Equestrian turn off. Approximately 30 miles of trail. (27 miles is closer) Trail Fees are 2.50 per day .. per horse or $30.00 pr/year pr/family. 12 campsites with electrick and water, 12.50 pr/day and does NOT include riding fees.

Directions to Sportsman Lake. Just come up I-35 into the Norman area and you will see the Highway 9 East to Tecumseh turn off. This will be BEFORE you get into the heart (and traffic) of Norman itself.

There are fire rings and grills, flush toilets, showers, etc. There is a fee for using the trail and it is on an honor system, or you can pay a one-time yearly fee.
The trails are excellent and well marked. The trail really varies from hills, to negotiating rocks, several water crossing and rest stops complete with picnic tables.
One area offers a shallow stream over rock. Great place to cool those hot feet, both yours and the horse!

Since the terrain is so varied, the trails are always interesting, offering some beautiful views of the lake from hilltops. I highly recommend these trails, but as some of the trails can be rugged, some experience is required.
On nice weekends, this place is packed and parking with a trailer can prove challenging - brush up on those backing skills. At trail head, maps are available as well as a well thought out mounting area for those extra-tall horses and those who are vertically challenged. (Great for the kids as they can 'do it all' themselves)

Great place for a weekend getaway. This camping area is only a few miles out of town, but an easy drive. There several restaurants and dining areas, as well as a Wal-Mart for those forgotten items.
