Strawberry valley of North Eastern Utah offers horse riding trail.
Heber City: I typically camp at the end of Forest Service road 047. This is a gravel road. Go 7 miles north off US
Highway 40. You will find a set of cattle corrals that the ranchers use. Many trails depart from this area.
We typically hold a 50 mile endurance race and CTR at this same location the end of June each year.
So the trails are easy to follow and usually cleared of dead falls.
It is primitive camping area. There is Horse water in the river. No people water or any out houses.
Corrals are at 8200 feet elevation Nearby peaks are 11,000 + altitude.
This is one of the largest Aspen forest in the world. Many of the trails wind through the aspens.
In June and early July the wild Flowers are spectacular.
There is lots of water and grass along the trail. There are lots of Elk, deer and a few Moose and an
occasional black bear.
It is an excellent area to ride during June, July and August when it’s hot other places. Because of it’s
elevation. It can have great swings in temperature, and sudden mountain storms are common.
Across Highway 40 is the Great Western Trail. Lots and Lots of places to ride. Check with visitor center at
Strawberry Reservoir or Forest Service in Heber City.
For those wanting to stay in a bed. Daniels Summit Lodge offers rooms (9 miles away) And Heber City is 20
miles away down Daniels Canyon. And Park City is 40 miles away.

Middle Fork, Huntsville
The middle fork of the Ogden river is owned by the State of Utah Division of Wildlife. It is a winter
wildlife refuge for Deer and elk. During the summer months it is frequented by horses and riders.
The trailhead is located close to Huntsville UT. Parking is on a large flat area under several large
Cottonwood trees. This is a river bottom and is pretty rocky area to ride in. Shoes are recommended.
Most riders follow the trail up the river bottom. Go up to Left hand fork or Browns Hole and returning the
on the same trail they went out on. But there are several loops for those wanting longer rides. Libby’s
Loop follows the river up 4-5 miles and then climbs up on top of the ridge several thousand feet higher.
The trail follows cobble creek down into Gertson canyon and across a large bald face back to the trailhead.
This area is mainly Mountain Maples, Scrub Oak, Service berry, Choke Cherry on the sidehills and willows in
the creek bottom with occasional large Cottonwoods. There are a number of wild apple trees the old ranchers
planted. Late in the summer it’s fun to pick a few apples and share with your horse. This is a Spectacular
ride in the fall when the leaves turn.

Northern Eastern Utah
In Northern Eastern Utah along the Wyoming border is a wilderness area. There are too many trailheads and
trails to name. You could ride anew trail every day and not cover them all in a summer.
The trail heads vary. Some are very primitive. Others have corrals, restrooms, etc. This is Forest Service
land so expect to abide by forest service rules for length of stay, certified weed free hay etc.
Access is from various roads in Wyoming for the North Slopes, Highway 40 in Utah for the South Slope and the
Mirror Lake Byway (Highway 150) for the Western Slope.
This is high wilderness. Trail length will vary and usually are very rocky. Elevations are usually above
8000 feet. Summer storms are frequent. Expect to see frequent back packers on trails.
Most Utah hiking books, fishing guides will detail the trails and their end destinations.
